Rob Schremp Recalled

Rob Schremp and the Oiler Love/Hate Relationship

Worst Case Scenario

MacTavish - "So, I want you to play with Brodziak and Stortini."
Schremp - "But coach... you can't be serious. I'm a much better fit skill-wise and profile-wise to Robert Nilsson. Damn, even our names are the same."
MacTavish - "Don't make me scratch you and play Ladislav Smid, damn it."
Schremp - "What about Liam?"
MacTavish - "He's playing Bobby's spot on the 2nd line."

Schremp grudgingly accepts a 4th line plugger role, and spends the rest of his Oilers days in obscurity and signs a deal with the Red Wings in the off-season.

Best Case Scenario

Rob Schremp lights the lamp and makes Kevin Lowe and Craig MacTavish look stupid by not recalling him earlier in favour of playing Sestito and Smid at his position.

As indicated here, I kind of figured that Schremp was going to be the first offensive guy to get a shot at coming up. This would be due to contract and seniority considerations alone. Being a good comparable to Nilsson doesn't hurt.

Plus, I think he has a more useful skillset than either Brule or Potulny right now considering the Oilers could use an offensive catalyst.

Middle of the Road Scenario

The Oilers continue to get outshot in the next game, and fall to another early deficit, and MacTavish mixes up his secondary scoring lineup and gives Rob Schremp no ice time, opting to go with Horpensky and the Usual Suspects.

No harm, no foul, but no risk taken. Rob Schremp makes no progress backwards of forwards on the depth chart.

Any Scenario

This is probably one of his best chances to stick with the team. Hopefully he can rediscover the chemistry he had during T.C. and Joey Moss.

FINALLY! Hopefully Nilsson is injured for a week or two, so that Schremp can get a good taste. I'd love to see him play with Cole - but I'm assuming he will play with the other two kids.
Cole and Brodziak looked pretty good last game, so maybe they can keep that going.
I'm super excited about this. I hope Schremp can finally make a name for himself up here.

Yeah, he has one goal and seventeen assists in his AHL season so far though. And the kid line are all passers... we'll have to see. Hopefully he decides to shoot more when he comes up or maybe he can set up Cogliano and Gagner for some gimmes. Who knows.

Yeah, that's why I'd like to see him play with Cole. Cole is a finisher (at least he should be). But yeah, we'll see how he does with Gagner. Maybe this will take some pressure off Gagner to set up plays, and he can work on scoring. Cogs should benefit from this. He's the best goalscorer (IMO) amongst the kids

Gagner's got quite a shot too, I don't know why he doesn't use it. It might have more to do with his positioning on the ice than with actual ability - I saw him unleash a one-timer against Dallas. Maybe if he would get into the low slot and be available for some Schremp passes we could make this work.
